Vietnam travel: Mu Cang Chai, astonishing destination for tourism

The magnificent scenery and breathtaking beauty of Khau Pha mountain pass or Mo fall and the delightful flavour of Can wine in the mountainous district of Mu Cang Chai in Yen Bai northern province may make it one of the most exquisite sites in the nation.
Located to the west of Yen Bai and some 1,000 meters above sea level, it is an inspirational destination for tourists, researchers and photographers.

Mu Cang Chai features enchanting scenery and gracious people whose way of life is so startlingly different than most in our world; it is endearing and lovely to visit such a beautiful, majestic landscape with kind people.
The place is well known for awe-inspiring terraced fields which have drawn domestic and international tourists. The fields are visible from virtually everywhere in the district, covering an area of over 2,200ha. The 500ha of fields surrounding the villages in Che Cu Na, La Pan Tan and De Xu Phinh communes were recognised as national heritage sites in 2007 by the Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism.
The district is also home to the mighty Pung Luong peak, the second highest peak of the Indochina roof, and the 32km long Khau Pha mountain pass, one of the four most renowned passes in Viet Nam. Meanwhile the Mo Waterfall, which is 3,000-metre high, is described as being as smooth as a lady’s hair.
Mu Cang Chai is famous for its rich traditional cultural art values such as its traditional dances, dishes and Sai San festival with H’Mong couples. The district is among a few areas where local cuisine, festivals and songs and dances are kept almost unchanged through the years.
Provincial authorities have introduced active and effective measures with the aim of bolstering the local tourism sector.
According to Tran Quang Vinh, Deputy Director of the Yen Bai province investment consultation and promotion centre, provincial authorities are calling for investors to develop local tourism and services, including consolidating infrastructure and service development.
The province is focusing on synchronously implementing policies of investment climate improvement and enterprise support through the action programme on improving the locality’s ranking on the competitive index (PCI).

Special Vietnam travel : Thrilling birding tour and more

105064_body_2

These days, thousands of birds and storks are flocking to Vam Sat Ecological Tourist Centre, making this natural site amidst Can Gio mangrove forests more exciting. The mangrove forests in Can Gio have been recognized by UNESCO as the world’s biosphere reserve.

The Vam Sat bird sanctuary, 50 kilometers from Ho Chi Minh City, covers 602.5 hectares, including the core area of 162.2 hectares and the buffer zone of 476.3 hectares. A majority of the trees are species growing on the higher land of the mangrove forests. The large buffer zone is an ideal venue for the development of birds in the future. To the north of the bird sanctuary are a 199-hectare natural forest and shrimp breeding farms.
Vam Sat is home to 26 bird species, including 11 waterfowl species. Storks and night herons build their nests on thorny trees so that their “houses” will be safe from snakes and monkeys.
Birds often lay eggs in the rainy season, from May to October. But this year, they have flocked there since April. Young birds live on diverse food provided by the vast swamp land criss-crossed with rivulets and canals and surrounding shrimp farms.
Aside from the bird sanctuary, Vam Sat has a bat swamp which is in fact a bat shelter. Local tour guides will row small boats gently and lead guests across tranquilly bushy mangrove forests. These forests are home to thousands of fruit bats whose wingspans are sometimes one meter wide. These bats live in the nature amidst the swamp embraced by mangrove forests. Tourists can take a sampan to weave through the forests to watch the huge bats, which can be found in Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Cambodia and Laos.
Adventurous visitors can take part in crocodile angling in Vam Sat Ecological Tourist Centre where some 40 crocodiles are raised. Travelers can also learn about habits of this large aquatic reptile. They can as well take part in the interesting game of “boating and crocodile angling.” Composite boats are equipped with hollow compartments to keep balance, and are well protected with steel nets. Staff members will help tourists hook the bait to the fishing rod. Tourists can stand on the boat to feed ferocious crocodiles.
Making sea salt with local farmers is another activity entertaining vacationers who want to have hands-on experience of salt production. Don’t forget to plant a mangrove tree in the forests for the environmental protection campaign. A large number of international visitors, especially young Japanese, together with Vietnamese students have taken part in planting green trees for the mangrove forests which are called the “green lungs” of HCMC.
Those who stay overnight at the center can join a trip in which they learn how to catch freshwater crabs in the river.

Vietnam travel news: Ha Giang Province to host buckwheat flower festival

Ha Giang Province to host buckwheat flower festival
The northernmost province of Ha Giang will hold the first ever Tam giac mach (buckwheat) flower festival in early October, when the plant fully blooms.
Buckwheat (scientifically known as Fagopyrum Esculentum) is a plant with clusters of small pinkish white flowers and edible triangular seeds.
H’Mong ethnic residents grow two crops of Tam giac mach every year, as it also blooms between April and May. The flowers are sensitive to sunlight, turning from white in the early morning to pink in the afternoon.
Buckwheat creates striking sights when blossoming, making it a tourist draw in Ha Giang, as well as neighbouring mountainous areas such as Lao Cai Province.
The provincial Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism will organise the festival in Dong Van district, as instructed by the Ha Giang People’s Committee.
Various activities will be held as part of the event such as a H’Mong panpipe festival, a tourism fair and a photo exhibition about the Dong Van Karst Plateau, which was recently recognised as a member of the Global Network of National Geoparks for the 2015-2018 period.

Vietnam tourism: Ba Mun Island - green pearl in Bai Tu Long Bay

Located in Bai Tu Long Bay in the northeastern province of Quang Ninh, Ba Mun Island is one of the largest and most beautiful clusters of isles with the greatest abundance of flora in Bai Tu Long National Park.

Ba Mun island
It is also an extremely interesting destination for those who love adventure and nature. It takes only 45 minutes on a high-speed boat from Cai Rong wharf in Van Don district to Ba Mun Island. The first impression tourists have when arriving at the island is pristine natural landscape with green forests embraced entirely by blue sea.
The east of the island (known locally as the “exterior”) is pummeled by strong waves with water spray launching tens of metres high, while the west (the “interior”) features tranquil scenery and calm water that ripples against the side of boats. Ba Mun covers an area of about 1,800 hectares with diverse flora and fauna including rare and valuable species. The most prominent plants are Tram Do (Syzygium zeylanicum), as well as Lim (Erythrophleum fordii), Sen (Madhuca pasquieri) and Tau (Vatica fleuryana Tardieu).
There are diverse rare flora species in Ba Mun forest
It is notable that the Lan hai orchid (Cypripedioideae), which was mistakenly thought to be extinct a few years ago, still exists here. At present, this orchid species is found only in Lao Cai and Ba Mun. Ba Mun has several rare species of animals, including the golden deer, which is still quite populous and the only population in northeast Vietnam. Golden deer often search for food at night. Therefore, it is hard to spot them during the day but visitors can see their footprints.
There are a lot of other species of animals such as antelope, monkeys, langurs and more, as well as sea and migratory birds. With its diverse fauna, Ba Mun Island is the largest wild animal reserve in the southeast region. For this reason, locals often call it “ Animal Island”.
On Ba Mun Island, there are seven large streams with unique names such as O Lon To (big pigsty) and O Lon Con (small pigsty), as well as Mieu Danh, Van Lau, Cao Lo streams, and Che flume. The water runs all year round and is very clean thanks to large coverage of the forest. This is a valuable source of fresh water amidst the vast sea.
Travelling to Ba Mun, tourists can explore on their own, following some natural trails on the island or patrol routes serving forest management. It takes at least 3 days to complete a tour of Ba Mun Island and 5 hours if going around the island by motorboat. The island has a wildlife rescue centre belonging to the Bai Tu Long National Park. Tourists can contact the centre in case they need any support.

Vietnam tourism:Sunset cruise sheds different light on magical Hoi An

Ancient Hoi An is probably the most popular destination in the central coastal region, but getting a view of it from the Hoai River at sunset shows how little it has changed in a thousand years.
A new tour capitalises on the river that winds through a town once one of the busiest ports in East and Southeast Asia.
The cruise is on an old fishing boat that has been modified and fitted out with cushioned seats and a bed room for overnight stays.
A small cooking area provides tasty snacks for tourists as they bask in the fading rays of the sun.
Pham Vu Dung, manager of Rose Travel Service Company, said he develops the tour for tourists who want to see all the usual places – pagodas, old houses and craft villages.
"We found that tourists enjoy something new," he said. "It's a very new programme and complements tours to rice farms, trips on buffalo carts and cooking classes in the town. Hoi An is attractive, so I design trips to take advantage of the district's natural assets. "
Tour operator Nguyen Dinh Khoi said the river cruise usually starts at 3pm and lasts until after sunset. To catch the converted fishing boat, tourists are taken to the Nguyen Hoang Wharf near Vinh Hung resort by Jeeps from the American War.
The cruise, which is perfect for a group of four to six people, provides an insight into the way Asians still cling to river banks and use the streams as markets and highways.

Fishing and farming are the most popular trades for those in villages on the banks. Fishing nets are set along the river, showing that rivers are still a primary source of food, Khoi said.
The tour also takes visitors to fish markets at the ports of Duy Hai and Cua Dai, he said.
The cruise also carries kayaks and bikes for those who want to explore further.
Tourists can take a bike ride to visit the 400-year-old Tra Nhieu port, once a port for junks sailing along the river. When the junks were replaced with larger vessels, the port became too small and closed.
Visitors can also see the mat making village of Dong Binh or another totally involved in weaving nets.
The boat cruises slowly along the river waiting for the sun to highlight an image of the ancient town. Those on board slip into mojito cocktails, beers and snacks.
The tour operator also has a floating bar to serve kayakers mid-stream. Made from a converted coracle, it carries food and drinks.
Tourists love it, said Vu Xuan Hao, a tour guide. They can also use kayaks to release lanterns in the Hoai River on full-moon day. Locals and visitors alike flock to the river for the ancient night festival, Hao added.
Another option is to have a feast on a farm at the village of Cam Chau, 4km from Hoi An's Old Quarter. The village is accessible by car, motorbike and bicycle on the road to Cua Dai beach.

Vietnam travel attraction: Cannon Fort Tourism Area – The place where the sky meets the earth

“Majestic” - that's what one might utter when visiting Height 177 (also known as Cannon Fort) located in Cat Ba Island district. En route to Cat Ba, people often hear of Height 177, where nature, the sky and the earth seem to converge. Although newly opened, Cannon Fort Tourism Area has been renovated to retain the original character of the history and nature there.

TRY A TOUR HERE!

The historical remainders include a system of complex observatories and trenches in addition to two cannons. Built right on top of the mountain, the military complex, which was ingeniously designed, is hidden under canopies and threads along the mountainside. In addition, architecture of the complex is not florid but strong and stable. So, the work remains almost intact despite wars and the passage of time. Besides strategic trenches formed by big, thick and rough stones, bulky tunnels with vaults under the mountain are spacious enough to accommodate a group of people passing through. The tunnel leading to the management area and bunker was built by solid concrete blocks. All these wild and rough features give sightseers a special impression of an intact historical relic.
Stop at the Fortress Café and one may be overcome with conflicted feelings. On the one hand is the simplicity and primitivism of the historic military site with trenches, ditches and munitions, while on the other is the romantic beauty that nature gives to this place - the beauty of sea, mountain and woods. Two hard-to-integrate values converge here. The Creator indeliberately arranged the contrasts of life, that everyone who comes here will be moved. This brings us to a philosophy about life: amid the harshness and primitiveness, there is a flow of romantic and poetic characters.
From the observatory, one can extend the eyesight onto the wide space ahead. People feel overwhelmed and adventurous by the space and scenery there. Below the foot of the mountain are the two most beautiful beaches of Cat Ba, namely Cat Co 1 and Cat Co 2. Legend has it that once upon a time, when the sky and the earth met, fairies would turn into storks to enjoy the magnificent landscapes of the earth. With its fine white sands, blue sea and waves rushing along the mountainside, this is truly a fairyland. There are also distant, looming and floating islands, such as Guoc Island and Long Chau (Dragon's Eye) Island. The Natural Creator has painted excellent lines on the blue ocean to make an incomparable picture.
From the other side of the Cannon Fort Tourism Area is Cat Ba Bay. Hundreds of floating houses and fishing boats anchoring in the bay create a bustling scene there. Looking down from above, one can catch sight of the bay, which is decorated with dots created by the distant boats. At sunset, rays of the blazing red sun flickering behind the ranges offer beautiful scenery with the glow of the sunset and the shadow of boats stretching on the sea surface.
Furthermore, one may enjoy the miraculous beauty of nature while from above viewing Lan Ha Bay, one of the most beautiful bays in the world natural heritage of Ha Long Bay. The jade green sea and the color of the vegetation on the limestone mountains increase the blueness of the picture. Lan Ha is often compared to a heavenly orchid with its pure and tender beauty on earth.
People who get close to nature feel relaxed and refreshed when they stand amid it. Coming to theCannon Fort Tourism Area is coming to a place where space harmonizes with time. One can feel the sky, earth, sea and mountains with any of the senses. Majestic and romantic scenes, along with original natural landscapes and the magnificent evidence of humans bring exclusive emotions to each of us.
Tourists to Cat Ba now have a more meaningful choice to return to nature, history and original values that is the Cannon Fort Tourism Area - where the sky meets the earth.
Try it out!

Vietnam travel attraction: Hoa Binh lures tourists with its unique character

For a long time, Hoa Binh Province has been considered the cradle for ancient Muong people with many significant cultural features, more than 200 historical relics and landscapes, of which 64 have been recognized as national relics.
With more than 50 tourist-cultural villages, Hoa Binh has much potential in community tourism development. To Hoa Binh, travelers will have memorable experiences in daily local activities, friendliness and kindness and austerity of locals. Hoa Binh is also attractive due to peaceful images of stilt houses and romantic scenery.

Mai Chau, a small town in Hoa Binh, was named by the respected U.S. Business Insider as among the ‘10 Awesome Cultural Tours That Will Make You Feel Like a Local.’

The U.S. magazine described Mai Chau as a wonderful destination if visitors are interested in a deeper experience of Vietnam with a warm and welcoming population and unspoiled natural beauty. Just three hours outside of the capitalHanoi, Mai Chau is a mountainous region dotted with traditional stilt houses. Two ethnic minority groups – the White Thai and Black Thai – make up the majority of the population there.

About 12 kilometers from downtown Hoa Binh City, Giang Mo Village in Binh Thanh Commune is also suggested as an interesting venue for foreigners to learn more about indigenous culture of Muong, Thai, Tay, Dao and Mong peoples.

The highlight of the village is its stilt houses which number over 100 and remain in good condition with old water pipes, rice husking mortar, arcs, crossbows and terraced rice fields. There, ethnic people still keep their own customs.

Exploring a bit further, tourists can go to Cu Village in Tu Ne Commune andThau Village in Lac Sy to explore primitive landscapes and ethnic culture.

Hoa Binh is also impressive with its traditional festivals such as Vai Communal House festival, gong festival, Muong Bi summer festival, Hang pagoda festival, and Tien pagoda festival. As a whole, the festival clearly illustrates the traditional faith and the cultural exchange among different groups.

Vietnam travel attraction: Hanoi ranks eighth among top destinations

Hanoi ranks eighth among top travel destinations, said TripAdvisor. Asia has three cities listed among top travel destinations including Hanoi.
Hanoi is on the eighth place after Kathmandu (Nepal) and Sapporo (Japan), which are also in Asia.

“The charming Vietnamese capital has aged well, preserving the Old Quarters, monuments and colonial architecture, while making room for modern developments alongside, but it hasn't forgotten its past. Lakes, parks, shady boulevards and more than 600 temples and pagodas add to the appeal of this city”, said the world’s largest travel website.
This is the second time Hanoi has been listed on the most attractive destinations in the world.
