Sóc Trăng
is a province in the Mekong Delta of southern Vietnam , with its capital in Sóc
Trăng. The province occupies an area of 3,223 km2, and has a
population of approximately 1,213,400. The province's original Khmer name was
Srok Kh'leang, meaning "silver depository" because it was where the
Khmer king's silver treasury was located. The Vietnamese settlers corrupted it
into "Sốc-Kha-Lang" and eventually "Sóc Trăng". Under the
Nguyễn Dynasty emperor Minh Mạng, it was given the Sino-Vietnamese name Nguyệt
Giang , a calque of "Sông Trăng" (Moon River ).
Sóc Trăng
province lies roughly between 9o14'N and 9o56'N latitude
and between 105o34'E and 106o18'E longitude. It is
bordered to the north west by Hậu Giang Province .
To the southwest it is bordered by Bạc Liêu Province . And to the north east it is
bordered by Trà Vinh Province .
To the north is Vĩnh Long Province .
To the southeast is 72 km of coastline of the South
China Sea .
The provincial capital of Sóc Trăng province is the town which is also called
Sóc Trăng. It is 231 km from Hồ Chí Minh City.

Attractions in Soc Trang
The Bat Pagoda
Chua Doi ( the Bat
Pagoda) was named Wathseraytecho – Mahatup that was phonetic from Khmer
language. People called that is the Bat Pagoda as there are thousands of bats
came and living on the big trees in its garden. It is around 04 hectares square
meters.
The Bat Pagoda is located inside Soc Trang city.
There are around 600 Khmer Pagodas in the Mekong Delta and Bat Pagoda is one in the top of architectural works

The Clay Pagoda
The Clay Pagoda or Buu
Son Tu is the preserved place for 1991 the clay statues in Soc Trang. Besides,
there are 8 pairs of big candle. Its weight is over 200kg per each and its
height is 1.6m. One smallest pairs of candle was lighted on during 32 years
since Mr. Ngo Kim Tong, the owner of those statues, died until now.
My Phuoc Islet
Location: My Phuoc Islet is located in the
middle of the Hau River , in Nhon My Commune, Ke Sach District, Soc Trang Province ;
about half an hour by boat, 10km from Ke Sach small town.
Characteristics: My Phuoc Islet (also called Cong Dien or Bun
Islet) has many tropical fruit frees. The river islet, which is in a refreshing
and cool area with a beautiful river landscape, is an attractive tourism spot
in Soc Trang Province .
Location: The sanctuary lies at Long Binh
Commune, Nga Nam District, Soc Trang Province; 17km from Phu Loc Town.
Characteristics: Over the past 20 years, this sanctuary has been home to thousands of storks. It has been recognized as one of the green tourist attractions.
